Woody Allen`s play hits Moscow stage again
Riverside Drive, a play by the king of irony Woody Allen, is back on Moscow`s stage. Muscovites and the city`s guests will get a chance to see the play at Strastnoy Theatre Center on November 4 and 5.
Director Aleksandr Sozonov and the students of the Moscow Art Theater School wanted to deliver the irony so much valued by the world-famous filmmaker and writer Woody Allen. To do so, the play was staged in its original English language with Russian subtitles.
The cast featured in the production are American graduates of the Moscow-based theater school, Cazimir Liske, Odin Bayron, and Russian Alisa Estrina, the soloist of The Witches of Eastweek musical, staged by Yanush Yuzefovich.
Riverside Drive is a trilogy about human feelings and their relativity, sex, money and of course New York. In traditional Woody Allen manner, the characters face harsh challenges and tough choices, such as leaving one`s family for another person, taking away a best friend`s husband, and so on?
Sozonov`s Riverside Drive production was labeled an intercultural project and an unusual performance featuring multimedia elements and video installations. The adaptation has proven popular with Moscow audiences since its premiere in summer 2010 and thus is back on stage.
No wonder then that the play is hitting the Strastnoy Theater Center since in recent years, this Moscow stage has hosted youth theater festivals, experimental productions and unusual concerts.
